Commuting No Fun

Take a deep breath and squeeze to the slow lane. Commissioner ^P1’s penny-pinching refusal to spend more money on Mass Transit is making everyone do more with less. Everyone, that is, except Commissioner ^P1. A recent neighborhood council meeting drew a large audience. "If the commissioner drove to work, like I do every day, I bet things would change," snarled Margaret Sniderman.

She spoke for many who need up to an hour and a half, each way, between homes and jobs. "I can walk to work in less time than that. It’s pathetic," added Cuthburt Humpfries. "Commissioner ^P1’s mass transit policy is to do less than an adequate job," chided Ralph Richardson, chairman of ^C1 Citizens for Transit, which sponsored the meeting. "I challenge the commissioner’s entire office to use their ridiculous excuse for mass transit in ^C1. Try it for a month. Then fix it. That’s our challenge."
